Sunday mornings like these

This morning I was woken at 8am by Steve calling my name from the kitchen. I could smell the bacon cooking and that was enough to get me out of bed instead of rolling over to steal more sleep.

I came downstairs and noticed that he had not only put on a whole breakfast for me, he had also made me a coffee.
We sat down together to eat breakfast and by 9am we had eaten and were ready for the day. That doesn't happen often around here. I enjoy my sleep ins and can usually still be found in bed at 10am.

Now I sit here at 9:30am with a whole day ahead of me. There is something about rising early on a weekend that has such a feeling of accomplishment. Don't you think?

In case you were wondering, this is what my natural, untamed hair looks like right now. Stunning, I know..

Now, as I have a pup asleep next to me I am planning my day ahead. Sadly, that includes doing some Uni work.

Have a lovely Sunday!

Kitchen by Mike - Rosebery

Most weekends, S and I choose a different cafe to try out. This past weekend, we chose Kitchen by Mike after I read a review about it.

Upon arriving, I noticed there was a lot of seating which was mostly full. There was also a huge line up of people waiting to be served. Whilst I stood in line, S snagged a table and waited for me. I was in line for about half an hour because out of all the staff there, only one person was taking orders. I was starving and just wanted to order but the guy taking orders just wanted to chat to everyone.

S ordered the pancakes with lemon curd and I ordered yogurt with stewed fruit. Both meals were delicious though, mine was small and S's only had a small dollop of lemon curd; not enough for the 3 large pancakes in the stack.

I thought my breakfast was quite small. I had to eat some of S's pancakes so I didn't leave hungry. I gave S some fruit and yogurt so that he wasn't just eating dry pancakes.

We love our coffee, especially on Saturday morning. Luckily, the coffee was fantastic.

The cafe itself is located in a warehouse which also houses Koskela which is a homeware shop of sorts.  It offers kooky and unique furniture items and good for the home. I enjoyed looking around, but it wasn't heated in that part and I was freezing cold, so we left to go home.

I'm not sure I will go back to Kitchen by Mike. I wasn't really happy with the service and the fact that after sharing S's food, I was still hungry.

Cafe 2042 - Newtown

I am always on the search for a new cafe to spend my weekend mornings. Often, we will get in the car and go for a drive to find somewhere but today we decided to venture to Newtown..after all, it is only a ten minute walk away.

After walking up and down King St, we decided on Cafe 2042. It was big, open and looked inviting. It also had a lot of people inside which definitely shows the quality of any restaurant/cafe.

I ordered an Acai, berry, banana and apple smoothie along with a serving of waffles with maple syrup and burnt fig ice-cream and S ordered a flat white for his morning caffeine intake and for breakfast he had bacon and maple syrup french toast.

The staff were quick to take our order and we had our drinks and meals within about 15 minutes which I think is great..I hate waiting too long for breakfast, since I usually haven't eaten at that time of the day!

My meal was great, definitely a big enough serving. I didn't really like S's french toast, but I don't like bacon and maple syrup together, so I guess that's why.

I definitely recommend this place if you are around Newtown!
